1. Garden Consultation
A garden consultation is a great starting point to get a general sense of how permaculture principles could apply to your garden. Like how to effectively utilise water (rain, runoff and/or greywater) to make your garden more drought-hardy. Or, where to put fruit trees or vegetables for success, and what the best plants (ornamental or edible) are for your site. Maybe you already have some ideas and need someone to bounce them off, or perhaps you are completely new to gardening and feeling overwhelmed by the possibilities - whatever your circumstances, we can help! Also, if you aren't sure whether you need a design or not, a garden consultation is always the first step - we can work out what would suit you best during our chat.

2. Permaculture Starter Pack
|
Sometimes a picture really does tell a 1000 words. If you need help seeing how things can be laid out over your property then this option could be what you are looking for. Or if you're after a preliminary design on a budget then this is for you.
A hand drawn sketch of how elements could be placed around your garden, complete with hand-written annotations. Don't worry, it's still to-scale and looks great, but it has less detail and is less 'polished' than the more detailed quality design that accompanies the Permaculture Master Plan. The starter pack also comes with a separate report which explains some of the permaculture thinking about your garden in an easy to follow, digestible format, all tailored to you and your garden circumstances. Relevant fact sheets are incorporated into the report itself as appendices, so if you're the sort of person who likes all of your information in one tidy place this could be for you. Print it out and keep it handy! |

3. The Permaculture Master Plan
|
If you want to gain a deeper understanding of the systems thinking and regenerative concepts that underpin permaculture, or if you need a quality landscape design that puts working with nature at its core, the Permaculture Master Plan could be just what you need.
Maybe you've been hoping to do a permaculture design course one of these days but just can't afford the time commitment (72-100 hours of study) in your busy schedule. The Permaculture Master plan provides you with a quality to-scale design with a higher level of detail than the concept sketch - it's so pretty you could frame it! The design comes in a pack that includes zone and site analyses of your property, detailed water harvesting plan (if required), grid overlay to help with measuring things out, plant suggestions and a comprehensive report full of permaculture knowledge relevant to you and your garden. It's not just about the 'what', but also the permaculture-focused 'how' and 'why'. |
We hope that as you, or your landscaper, implement your Master Plan you will see and learn how regenerative design and systems thinking can be applied, not only in the garden context, but perhaps to other aspects of your life too. In other words, it's a bit like getting your own personalised permaculture design course, without the intensive time commitment! And, given that this is in a similar price range* as most permaculture design courses, and you're also getting Cally's 10 years of professional permaculture experience, we think this is excellent value.

What does it cost?
$2200 urban / $2500 nearby rural (Additional fee for water harvesting plan if required)
Please note there is a $50 surcharge for consultation on a weekend or public holiday.
* A typical 72-hour permaculture design course in Australia costs between around $2500 per person, depending on provider.
A quality design by a professional landscape designer will normally cost at least $3000 - more if they are well known! A permaculture design, while it provides significant plant information is about a lot more than just plants and so it is not strictly comparable to a conventional garden design - it is a more holistic approach that takes into account things like water flows, soil regeneration and existing patterns of use. Some landscaping companies offer free basic design as part of their services - the cost of this will be recovered in their implementation/landscaping fees which can be considerable.

- 2 hours consultation time to discuss your needs and your garden's potential
- Follow up email for your input, confirming details of design job and elements to include in the design
- Zone analysis of your garden/property showing areas that are more and less frequently visited
- Site analysis, showing water flows, wind direction, areas of shade and sun exposure and other relevant considerations for your design
- Quality to-scale design with trees and shrubs labelled, water harvesting, pathways, lawn, structures (e.g. decking, seating, chicken run etc.) (Note: suggestions are provided for small plants & groundcovers in relevant areas giving you some flexibility and choice in smaller plants. If you require all plants to be identified and labelled on a design, please check out Option 4 below)
- Design overlaid with grid to help with measuring out distances
- Comprehensive report explaining your design
- Water harvesting plan (if required) showing details of where to dig channels and basins, divert downpipes, grey water or tank overflows. ($450 extra)
- Two additional hours consultation time online or in our garden to demonstrate key ideas and answer your questions

4. Collaborative, Iterative and/or Detailed Design
|
If you would like to be more engaged in the design journey as an active co-designer (that is, beyond just explaining your needs and wants), a collaborative design approach might be your best fit. Alternatively, if you like the 'paint by numbers' approach to have every plant identified in a more detailed design, we can accommodate this too - usually in a number of A3 drawings to give you the resolution needed to see everything!
A collaborative and iterative design approach is good for larger sites where there may be several options for how it could be laid out, or school and commercial projects where ideas need to go to a Board or committee for approval before commencing to the final stage. This design process involves initial consultation, and clarification of the aims and scope of the work via email. Then Cally draws up an initial concept sketch for your input and feedback. After this we may do more consultation and/or draw up more concept sketches as required, before proceeding to the final design and design pack as per the Permaculture Master Plan. On the other hand, a detailed plant-by-plant design might be needed if you need a blueprint to hand to a gardener or landscaper. Depending on how much collaboration is required, we might progress straight to the final design once you are happy with the details via email - it's entirely up to you. |
